I urbexed this place with a few mates probably a couple of years before you took this video, I placed a written remembrance dedication sealed in plastic to those who served at HMS Vulture. We had a ladder so it's right at the top of the tower in the actual observation control room.

Very well researched. one building missed; the gymnasium standing on its own about a mile SE. At the village church, you'll find headstones of young trainee pilots who died during training flights here....like over 9000 of their comrade pilots who died in training accidents in WW1...those early aeroplanes were just that; too early.

The warden should at least read the death warrant to the inmate and ask him if he has any last words. This is done in front of the gallows and then he is walked up the 13 steps to the rope that has 13 loops. There should be witnesses to that and the execution. While it shouldn't be dragged out, it would take at least 5 minutes to do those things.

I live here and the buildings are in even more decay. The farmer who owns this land has been approached several times to sell the land to the museum etc so it can be restored and opened as a living museum in dedication to all those who gave their lives, but the owner farmer is an asshole.

For the executioner and his assistant to hold onto. That pit is 13 feet deep, and concrete, you don't want to fall in.

Excellent footage, really interesting for me as I live a couple of miles away in hinton charterhouse which has a couple of pillboxes and an anti tank ditch in what was stop line green. Things like this need conservation orders on for future generations I think

Very interesting, nice to see that so much survives. I do wish that maodern day owners were obliged to maintain buildings to a reasonable degree and not let them just fall down. BTW it`s NissEn hut, Nissan is a car maker. Incidentally I just Googled this airfield and found that a short distance away is Dunkeswell airfield which appears to be in use and well cared for. Might be worth a visit too.

I visited the field last year covered in photovoltaic cells but you can see the buildings close to the Fosse Way. I was born in Chippenham and lived near Swindon but was never aware of this field’s history. Thank you for the details. The only thing more disappointing than a disused airfield is a neglected Golf Course imho. ie Highworth Golf Centre, Swindon.

It's plain to see the aircraft that lost crewmembers. It's all terribly sad because they were all young men with their lives ahead of them. I've met a few former servicemen. One was an RAF navigator with titanium knees as a result of a bombing mission over Germany. Another was the mother of a friend and the mother fought at Stalingrad.
